Dec 14, 2009 - week 12

Hey all, update 14 incoming. This transfer is coming to a close, we got our calls 2 days ago. Transfers take place this Tuesday. I will be staying in Yerington for another transfer, and my companion (Ferguson) is going to be going Zone leader in Carson City. Basically that means hes going to be over all the missionaries that are in that zone along with his new companion. He then reports to the Assistants who report to the President of the mission.
Thats how that works. :) So im pretty excited, it is sad to lose Ferguson, he was a good comp, but change is always good. Stretches ya a little bit.

So this last week was pretty good, we've got a couple new people in our teaching pool since it has slowed down a bit with all the people we have been baptizing. Pretty crazy story, for those of you who are familiar with tracting youll understand this, tracting is pretty much the most ineffective form of missionary work there is. 9 houses out of 10.. wait more like 999 houses out of 1000 they either wont be home or they wont want to talk to you. And that 1 person that does (FYI tracting is knocking on doors..) actually talk to you generally wont be interested in the message they will mearly talk with you. So anyhow, we were tracting one day and as we were doing so we noticed a girl, that we had seen a lot because she works at the local grocery store, going into her house which was on the intersecting street. So not even on the street we were tracting. We didnt think much of it and kept on going but after a few more houses we thought we would go talk to her. So we did so and she of course wasnt interested. We left her with a pass along card with out number on it and left. About a 2 and a half weeks later we get a call from a missionary in the Referral Center in the MTC and he leaves us with some information for a referral he had been chatting with on Mormon.org which they do in the referral center. Lo and behold.. it was the girl we had tracted into. When we talked to her then she had said she didnt really believe in God anymore and she used to attend a Baptist church but hadnt going in some 5 years or so. After we talked with her she felt bad for blowing us off pretty much and was going to call us but it turned out that her friend had thrown away her pass along card. So she had remembered the website and decided to check it out and see what it was all about. She then went on to chat with a missionary in the referral center and then he referred her back to us again. We had our first lesson with her last Thursday and it went very well. Pretty crazy huh? That is a really rare occurence at least in this mission, so we are really excited for it.

As for the rest of the week, it was pretty slow. Ive been sick with some virus for the past 2 and a half weeks, and am still getting over it. We only stayed in for like half of one day, cause it wasnt a horrible sickness, just some sore throat stuff and I was plugged up a little. All I got now is a bit of a cough but it isnt too bad. Ferguson came down with it like 4 days ago, so we stayed in part of another day and hes still got it pretty bad. I guess its been going all around town, a lot of people have been coming down with it and the only cure is rest really. Doctors have said to other people that have gone in that there isnt anything they can do about it, so we're doing a little bit of that. We did however have a baptism in Hawthorne on Saturday, so that was good.

I hope everyone continues to do well, and stay warm! :)

Love as always,

~Elder Lowder
